Pentangle Arts presents Hair: The Original Tribal Rock Musical. HAIR is about a group of Vietnam-era youths in New York City’s East Village who band together as a TRIBE. Taking on the feel of an American Indian tribe, they question authority and the society they are living in and the war in Asia, exuberantly creating their own rite of passage. Among them are Claude and Berger; a pair of friends battling against Claude’s draft notice, and Sheila, who is in love with both, but her politically-active lifestyle leaves her little time to act on her feelings. With themes of alienation and civil disobedience, HAIR illustrates the ‘60s generation’s search for meaning.
HAIR celebrates the sixties counterculture in all its barefoot, long-haired, bell-bottomed, beaded and fringed glory. To an infectiously energetic rock beat, the show wows audiences with songs like “Aquarius,” “Good Morning, Starshine,” “Hair,” “I Got Life,” and “Let The Sun Shine.” Exploring ideas of identity, community, global responsibility and peace, HAIR remains relevant as ever as it examines what it means to be a young person in a changing world.
HAIR is presented by arrangement with TAMS-WITMARK MUSIC LIBRARY, INC. 560 Lexington Avenue, New York, New York 10022
