Sonatas for Flute and Piano by Gary Schocker

Inspiration and Connection, a debut album celebration.

Music of Gary Schocker, Jacques Ibert, Olivier Messiaen, and Franz Schubert. 

Leslie Neighbor Stroud, flutist, active as an orchestral and chamber musician, enjoys a varied career performing on modern and historic flutes.  Noted by the New Bedford Standard Times for her “excellent solo flute work,”  and “virtuosity,” Ms. Stroud has appeared with the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra, the Savannah Symphony Orchestra, the New Bedford Symphony Orchestra, the Baltimore Chamber Orchestra, and the San Fransisco Concerto Orchestra. Her performances as a chamber musician include at Dartmouth College, the Opera House at Booth Bay Harbor, Plymouth State University, Old First Concerts in San Francisco, Stone Church Arts, and the St. Gaudens National Historic Site Summer Series.  She is a founding member of Acacia Chamber Music.  As a member of the Peabody Contemporary Music Ensemble, her performance in Paul Hindemith’s Hérodiade, is housed in the United States Library of Congress.

Dedicated to the intersection of community and education, Ms. Stroud is a founding member of Cameo Arts Foundation, Inc, bringing local aid, assistance and music together.  Ms. Stroud has taught at the Johns Hopkins University’s Center for Talented Youth, as a founding member of the innovative Schools Music! series with the New Bedford Symphony Orchestra, at the St. Paul’s School for Girls and Tabor Academy.  A graduate of the Peabody Conservatory of Music, her teachers include Britton Johnson, Timothy Day, Louis Schaefer, Walfrid Kujala, Gary Schocker, Suzanne Stumpf (historic flutes), and Yaada Weber.  For more information, please visit www.lesliestroud.com.

The American pianist Matthew Odell has won acclaim for performances of a wide range of repertoire as a solo recitalist, soloist with orchestra, and chamber musician.  He has been hailed as “excellent” by the New York Times and “brilliant . . . playing with total commitment and real abandon” by Gramophone.  His performances have taken him to Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, the Kennedy Center, and throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia.  

Deeply committed to strengthening the ties between today’s composers and audiences, Mr. Odell frequently premieres works written for him and has worked with many prominent composers, including Pierre Boulez, John Corigliano, Ned Rorem, Mark Adamo, Michel Merlet, and Robert Aldridge.  He has performed the complete piano music of Messiaen, Boulez, Carter, Merlet, and John Adams, and in 2019 he released his debut album Connections: The Music of Olivier Messiaen and his Students on Albany Records. 

Mr. Odell is a founding member of the Hampton Trio and Acacia Chamber Music.  He received his doctoral degree from The Juilliard School, and in addition to teaching at Juilliard, he frequently presents workshops, master classes, and lectures at professional conferences and universities throughout the USA and Europe.   For more information, please visit www.matthewodell.com.
