In February 2000, a group of teenage folk music enthusiasts lock themselves away for a weekend at the Pelimannitalo in Kaustinen – the heart of Finnish folk music. Violins are playing, musical ideas are flying, new songs are being learned with great enthusiasm, a genuine passion for Nordic traditional music is glowing, heard and seen! The first demo tapes are recorded and plans are made for the future. The group starts calling itself Frigg.
The band’s lineup is established as a combination of four violins, strings and double bass. In the spring of 2002, the first album is released and the name of the Frigg band begins to be a topic of conversation among the Nordic folk music community more and more often. The Nordic region is suddenly shrinking and the band quickly becomes familiar with European folk music events.
Frigg has been conquering the world with a fusion of western folk music styles leaning strongly towards Nordic folk music, for which the world music media has coined the term nordgrass, referring to the bluegrass influences of the group. The tight interplay of four violins, string instruments and contrabass, fine-tuned to perfection and spiced with sparkling, humorous live-energy has made an impact on listeners all over the world.
On their Spring 2025 tour, Frigg will perform new tracks from their recently released album, along with a comprehensive selection of cornerstone pieces from their previous eleven albums. Come and hear the original Frigg energy through classic tracks RajRajRaj and Keidas, and the surprising turns of today’s favorites Häkkisen riili and Early Bird. In these concerts, you get a perspective on how the Frigg sound has evolved into what it is today!
